Man, we are beat! we went to bed close to 12 and got up at 5. I took the wax off both boards, and Mikey got up at 5:45. We left at 6:30. Initially, Vincent wanted to surf Makaha, which is on the west side of the island, with the infamous mean locals. But, at 6:15, he texted saying Lani's (Laniakea beach), but he arrived there, said it was too small, and went to Rocky Point, just north of Pipeline. We stopped at Lani's and looked...it didn't look super good, so we drove to Rocky Point. There were some overhead waves, but mostly chest-head waves. But rocks everywhere! Mikey and I prayed before we went in. I took the GoPro. For 20 minutes, all we did was fight the current and duck dive. Then, as I went for a chest-head waves, and Mikey yelling "paddle harder!" i caught my first Hawaiian wave. It was a fun drop, but not much line to it. I went down as the wave died, and the leash broke. On the first wave! So, I had to swim/walk on straight rocks to get it. Which, as you can imagine, sucked. So, that was my last wave of the day, because surfing without at leash isn't much fun. Mikey didn't have much fun there. He kept getting pushed into the rocks. Unfortunately, he didn't catch one. We got back in the truck and talked about it. I didn't think it was that bad, but Mikey did, so we will probably go to Hale'iwa next time, where a lot of beginners surf. There are some waist waves there too, so it should be fun. We got home, and I realized there was an extra leash in the truck, kind kind of stunk, but it didn't matter now. We left home and went to the Christmas Party at the hospital on the military base. It started at 12 and we got home at 5. Mikey and I shared a gift playing the white elephant/steal a gift game. We opened an 8-ball, and who wants to steal that? Afterwards, we gave it to a kid. The funny thing about the game was that there was alcohol given! 3-4 bottles of wine, 1 bottle of Champagne, 1 bottle of Vodka, and 1 bottle of Jack Daniel's. Oh, and Reds mango ale. We came home, Maggie and Dani napped until 7, when they went to Dani's sisters. Mikey and I stayed home and caught up in our journals. Tomorrow, we plan to go to Hale'iwa and start small.
